Great contrast. If you wanted the beast to be exhaling smoke, I think you shouldn't have it go all the way to the top while still getting brighter or it might seem like part of the background. Sometimes, I believe they're in a sort of crack in the ground, and that the light is blocked from reaching where they are. Took me a while to find the tail (may just be me, I'm only one person)
